Love Looks Like Something

It always feels awkward to me to ask for donations, even for a Christian cause - especially for aChristian cause. Did Jesus ask for money? I think not, but he didn't eat air either. We knowfrom scripture there were followers of Jesus that God used to meet the material needs of himand his disciples. So, I've come to rethink why we, as a charity, do what we do - i.e. raisemoney for projects and ministry...

More of Him, Less of Me

John the Baptist was not your ordinary man. “John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.” (Matthew 3:4) But Jesus said of him, “I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist.” (Matthew 11:11). So, looking past his meals and fashion statement, there are a couple of qualities that we should try to emulate. For those less familiar with the Bible, a little explanation is in order. Hungry and Thirsty

I’ve heard the deep rumblings of my stomach demanding food, but I’ve never known the constant hunger of being forced to go without a meal because there was no food in the house. If the cupboards and refrigerator were bare, it was only because we hadn’t made our trip to the grocery store yet to restock them. Orphans, widows, and other forgotten people in India and Rwanda often experience the pain of an empty stomach. But the Prophet Amos spoke of a day when...

Social-Distancing from God

In our fight against the coronavirus, we have been told that we need to social-distance. People in the Old Testament practiced this when they came across a leper. The one afflicted with this disease was supposed to warn anyone approaching them by yelling, “Unclean. Unclean.” How humiliating. Social-distancing has been practiced throughout history. Before this pandemic, it was referred to as quarantine or isolation. These were attempts to combat the spread of disease. When I went to India with Apple of His Eye Charity, one of the highlights for me was to visit the leprosy churches, composed of lepers and their...

Don’t Mess with God

God is patient, but it’s a mistake to think that He is a pushover. He is not fooled by the appearance of things. More powerful than night-seeing goggles, His eyesight allows Him to see clearly into the dark recesses of our hearts, and He sees the motivations behind our actions. In addition to being fully aware of every individual, He evaluates entire nations. Often, we think that God should step in and judge a nation sooner than He does. We think, “If I were God, I’d let them know who’s boss.” (Good thing we aren’t God.) I don’t know why He...
