El Roi: The God Who Sees Women Like Jyothi

Meet Jyothi.  She has three young children.  Her husband has serious health issues and is unable to work at even the most menial labor.  She came to the sewing training center desperate for a way to feed her family and keep them off the street.  In a few months, Jyothi will earn a certificate verifying that she is a trained seamstress.  This government-recognized certificate will qualify her for a decent job at one of the many tailor shops in her city. The certificate means a place to live, food and most of all, a future!

  Each year, 40-50 women like Joythi graduate from one of our two sewing centers.  Some are young widows, some are castaways…each has a story.  It’s amazing how something as simple as a sewing certificate can set their life on a completely different course!  

            During our visit with these women, we dramatized and shared the story of Hagar, another woman who was not wanted, had nowhere to turn and faced certain starvation and death along with her son.  In the story, Hagar discovers “El Roi,” the God who sees me.  It was our joy to introduce them to a God who sees and loves them.  That day, two Hindu students received Christ.

            Sometimes, the sewing center is able to gift a woman with her own machine so she can start her own micro-business.  If you feel you would like to invest in this ministry by providing a sewing machine, either for the school or one of the graduates, you can do so.  It costs US$150 for an Indian made treadle machine that requires no electricity.  What a great way to completely turn a life around from despair to hope!
