Wise Investments
The last thing I want to do with my money is play the stock market. I know that some people have made enormous sums of money investing in various companies. But many, many more individuals have taken a tremendous hit and lost their entire investment. Combining my poor understanding of economics with the fact that I don’t like taking risks, I’m afraid I’d end up as another statistic in the latter group. I’m not against investing in the stock market. It’s just not for me to try.
Jesus talked about making wise investments. He said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19–21). He guards your investment where no thief is able to access it, nor will you ever experience volatility in the market or diminishing returns.
Investing in Apple of His Eye Charity is an investment in the lives of the orphans, widows and other marginalized people that AHEC supports in India and Rwanda. Here are three ways you can make an investment. I use the term “investment” because some of the results of your gifts will be seen immediately. But you won’t be aware of other results till you meet these people in Heaven.
One, you can give of your treasures. Ongoing, monthly donations allows us to wire money on a regular basis to our partners. It’s the heart of our Charity, sending money to trusted partners who know their situations far better than we do.
Two, you can give of your time. Volunteering in our office or at one of our fundraisers allows us to keep a low overhead. Another way of investing your time is by joining us on a two-week mission trip to India or Rwanda.
Three, you can give of your talents. We have been able to put on medical clinics and eye clinics because doctors and nurses have gone on mission trips with us. Whether your skills are in construction, computers, cooking, sewing, or preaching, the kids, widows, and pastors look forward to your smiles and hugs.
Remember that Jesus said, “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42)
