Importance of One
Can you imagine Billy Graham holding a large crusade and in the middle of it, feel like he is to leave the crusade to go talk to one person in a distant city? That would be similar to what happened to Philip in Acts 8. He had been having a very productive evangelistic ministry in Samaria when an angel of the Lord told him to leave it all behind and head south. Through his obedience, Philip met an Ethiopian official who was in charge of the treasury of the queen of Ethiopia. Philip shared the gospel with this man who gladly put his faith in Christ.

Jesus climbed into a boat in the Jewish region of Galilee and sailed across the lake to the Gentile region of Decapolis in order to encounter one man. This man had been rejected by the townspeople and was living a lonely existence in a cemetery. His life had been shattered by the destructive forces of multiple demons. No one could help him or control him…that is, until Jesus confronted him. Jesus cast the demons out of the man and restored his sanity. Then the Lord got back in the boat and sailed home. (See Mark 5)

When Jesus arrived back in the land of Israel, He was immediately surrounded by a crowd. A man pleaded with Him to heal his twelve-year-old daughter. Jesus was pleased to head for the man’s house.

As Jesus was heading for the home of the sick girl, He was stopped short in His tracks because a woman who had some kind of hemorrhage for twelve years touched Him in faith and was instantly healed. Jesus scanned the pressing crowd until His eyes latched on to the woman. Amidst all the clamoring, Jesus stopped, spoke kindly to this woman, and commended her faith in the hearing of the throng.

With Apple of His Eye Charity, it was started in order to take care of orphans in India. Orphans there are a dime a dozen, but each one has a name and is important to God. Jesus came for them, too. Jesus told the story about the shepherd that left his 99 sheep who were safe, in order to look for the single one that had wandered off. Jesus is that Shepherd who understands the importance of one.
