Board of Directors

Spread the love

Because we are a volunteer-based organization, AHEC relies heavily on its’ Board of Directors. God has blessed us with an incredible group of people completely committed to the Lord Jesus and to the mission of AHEC. Each one is uniquely gifted and all that AHEC accomplishes is due, in part, to this group of people.

Tami Jo Saling-Caldwell

Board Chair

TJ has earned a B.A in Business Management from UWO. She is a wife to Dan and a mom/step mom to 5 beautiful kids. After the death of her first husband, she thought her life was over, but God created beauty from the ashes. On her first trip to India, God began to nurture a seed in her heart that led to many hours of prayer and some in-home fundraisers. Read the rest of her story here.

Marlon Furtado

Board Vice Chair

Marlon Furtado is a staff pastor at Greater Gresham Baptist Church in Gresham, Oregon. On his third trip to India in January of 2014, he was again impressed with the humility and sacrificial hearts of the pastors in India. The children, some whom have been with the pastors for several years, are becoming humble servants themselves. The older kids love and help the younger.

Jodi Seaburn

Director of Development

Jodi has served as the Director of Development since January 30, 2017.  Her primary focus will be securing financial support through grant funds.  She has over 20 years of experience in the administrative field, which consists of managing accounts receivable, billings, grants, and reports, generating contracts, and overseeing Homeschool Notification.  After retiring from Multnomah Education Service District in June of 2015, Jodi became a caregiver for her mom until her passing.   After a time of grieving and healing, she desired to put her skills and experiences back to use and prayerfully asked God for direction. She wholeheartedly believes God answered those prayers by bringing her into the path of TJ (founder of AHEC) at a fast and prayer event.

Jodi has a strong passion for serving the Lord and helping people in need!  Her favorite chapter in the Bible is Psalm 145; a Song of God’s Majesty and Love!  Jodi has been happily married for 33 years and has 2 kids and 2 grandkids.

Terry Tipsord

Board Treasurer

A graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and later, Western Seminary. Terry has worked with small businesses and nonprofits helping them identify and pursue their mission as effectively as possible. He trained individuals as bookkeepers for small businesses, the self-employed and nonprofits before incorporating his own bookkeeping business as Daybreak Business Development, Inc. in 2006. In addition, Terry also works as an Instructor/Adviser at the Small Business Development Center in Gresham, Oregon. He fosters financial responsibility and faithful stewardship among his clients by helping them manage their businesses and nonprofits using sound principles of bookkeeping. Terry’s heart for the mission of Apple of His Eye Charity emerges from his own experiences as a young boy in a family that cared for foster children in their home and adopted two boys and girl through the years. And so, it took very little effort from friends already involved with overseas orphanages for Terry to become AHEC’s Treasurer responsible for (what else) the books.

Gina Burrese

Orphans and Widow Coordinator

Gina is a wife and a mother of two daughters and works as an administrative assistant for the City of Albany. Her heart’s desire is to follow where the Lord is leading. Not much of a risk taker and always hesitant about going on a mission trip, in 2007, she stepped out in faith and signed up to be part of a medical team going to Haiti. It was such a blessing to her life that she went two more times. Since then she has had the privilege of going to Rwanda and India. She never felt adequate for the task but God always shows up in a big way. Serving in Rwanda with board members from Apple of His Eye (AHEC) is where her heart was touched to want to become a part of this organization. Seeing the passion of helping those that are hurting was an inspiring experience. She has witnessed firsthand how donations to AHEC are being used to transform the lives of the widow and the orphan. It is making a difference in such a way that she is excited to be a part of something that she knows touches Jesus’ heart.

Keven Steege

Board Member

Keven is a CPA and part owner of Baker & Colson, PC, a public accounting firm in Gresham, OR. He is married to Luz whose deep interest and support in AHEC was instrumental in opening the doors for his involvement on the board. Initially, they “adopted” one AHEC orphan, providing monthly support. Then they “took over” a second orphan as someone couldn’t continue his support. Now they have added two widows and are blessed beyond measure to be involved in all these lives. Previously, Keven served on the board of Union Gospel Mission in Salem for several years. He brings this experience to the board along with the same heart for the helpless and hopeless, those in need of physical relief and a spiritual Savior in Jesus Christ. His involvement in AHEC can be summarized in one verse: “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19.

Rick and Shara Weiss

Webmaster (Rick) and Social Media (Shara)

Rick and Shara joined the Board of Directors on April 28 of 2016. Between the two of them, they have 8 children (3 young ones, still in the home). Rick has a background in pastoral work and received his MDiv from Fuller Seminary. He also has a degree in Political Science from Arizona State and worked as a Lobbyist for close to two years in Arizona. Rick has owned and run his own web development business since 1996 and currently assists Apple of His Eye Charity with their website and web development needs.

Shara has a background in early childhood, special needs, and marketing. She has worked in classrooms but stepped away in order to run her own marketing business from 2009 until 2016. Shara and Rick were actively involved in their former mountain town assisting with the town news website, charity events for children and seniors, fundraisers, the Library Board, the elementary school (Rick was voted onto the School Board), the annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children, and a ministry to high-risk teens through their church.

They reside in Oregon with three of their kids and are involved with the local school as PTSO presidents. Rick and Shara work from home, together, and are committed to partnering with one another in every aspect of their lives: from church and ministry to work and the local school.

They attend Greater Gresham Baptist Church. They are involved with a small group where Rick is one of the rotating teachers.

Rick and Shara are excited to be a part of AHEC and look forward to what God has in store for everyone involved!
